Foodie Friday: Candied Orange Peel

, , Leave a comment

For this week’s Foodie Friday entry, I wanted to share with you the quick and simple glories of Candied Orange Peel. Impressive because of its beauty, this stuff can be thrown together with ingredients you likely have on hand.

We’ll be following Giada De Laurentiis’ recipe from the Food Network.
(This is the same recipe I used to make the candied orange peel for my holiday Gibassier a few months back.)

Candied Orange Peel
Adapted from a recipe by Giada De Laurentiis

  • 1 large navel orange
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • (optional) 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

*I multiplied this recipe to make more candy

Peel oranges. Eat the insides. : )
Cut the peel into slices.
Boil sugar and 1/2 cup water per orange in a heavy saucepan. Add the rinds and stir to make sure each rind is coated. Simmer all together for 15 minutes on low.
Remove rinds from pan and place on a wire rack to dry. (It keeps things less messy if you put paper or foil under the rack.) If you want to add chocolate into the mix, melt it and dip each piece of peel into it. Let them sit and dry on wax paper.

It’s a beautiful Friday here…I think I might need to go find an excuse to spend some time in the sun. Have a great weekend!
