Happy 2010 Crafting World!

The new year always seems to involve some crafting and creativity for Lindsey and I, as we usually have some themed party we are making outfits for and decorating. This year was exciting as we had a dinosaur prom to prepare for. (What, never heard of such a thing?!?!?! Ya know, a party where you pretend it is prom and the theme is dinosaurs).
As you can see from the prom picture station, I was quite pleased to bring in 2010 dressed as a fancy triceratops. Lindsey (right) and Mariko (middle) looked great that night!

Along with celebrating the past year with friends, I enjoy the coming of the new year for all the resolutions people make. I think I see resolutions as to-do lists that everyone seems to be making. And I love to know what people are wanting and striving to do in their life. Here are some of my craft/creative goals for 2010:

~I want to work on my sewing skills. To help me accomplish this goal I am going to try some projects from a book I got for Christmas, ‘Weekend Sewing: More Than 40 Projects and Ideas for Inspired Stitching’ by Heather Ross. One thing I love about this book so far, it has recipes intersperse, hello peach and basil salad.

~I want to play around with and have felt involved in my crafting life more. I am considering taking a Portland Community College class about felt hat making. I also read an article in Martha Stewart’s December issue about felting projects, which I am looking forward to trying.

~I want to utilize another Christmas gift I received, ‘Vegan Cookies Invade your Cookie Jar’ by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero. I have cooked from their vegan cupcake books and have enjoyed the results. I have tried other vegan cookie recipes before and the outcome was a bit of a disaster, so I am excited to learn about the techniques in this book.

~Another goal of mine, which some might argue is not very crafty, but I am gonna write about it anyways, is having more of a green thumb. I have yet to really keep an indoor plant alive for very long, so I am hoping this is the year. I want to work on growing some herbs and building a terrarium or two.

In a while crocodile,
Jess
