Dr. Seuss Party

This time of year I’ve noticed the our Jim Henson party post becomes very popular. People are on the hunt for homemade costumes and the themed parties Linz and I have with our friends are full of ideas. I therefore wanted to share our New Year’s party from last year. We once again found inspiration from our childhood with a Dr. Seuss theme.
This ended up being a cute, but easy couples costume. Our friends were the Cat in the Hat and Sally. I love how resourceful they were in putting together their costumes. The Cat in the Hat used a ribbon as the tie and a piece of white felt to pin to his shirt. Sally put together her outfit with clothes she owned and a big ribbon bow usually reserved for presents. Love it.

Linz was one of my favorite costumes of the night. She was a Truffula Tree. As you can see, she dressed in black and attached a yellow ribbon drawn with a black design. She used a hot pink feather boa as her top with added pink hair spray paint. People may not know what you are right away with this costume, but I think half the fun is having people guess what you dressed up as.

Another fun group costume was The Grinch, his dog Max and Cindy Lou Who. Head over to Crafty Mariko’s site to check out how she cleverly put together these looks.

I of course could only have dressed up as one thing for this party. Fox in Socks! (If you don’t know, my last name is Fox). This costume fits with my desire to shop my closet. I used a dress in the color scheme I was going for with the addition of blue fuzzy socks and mittens. Which actually were also socks as I wanted my hands and feet to match. Surprisingly, socks can work well as mittens. The fox beanie was something I bought from an Etsy store as I knew it was the kind of cute thing I would wear again.

Another great couples costume- Sneetches!

Of course, you couldn’t have a Dr. Seuss party without a Dr. Seuss. Or two:
So many great costumes!

I have never thought about having a theme within the Halloween party. How fun! I’m sure you will share great photos after the event.
